If you’re looking to pick up a new iPad Mini with 4G LTE that hit stores today, or any other 4G LTE device for that matter, AT&T has just lit up 24 new markets with 4G LTE. These new markets now bring AT&T’s total up to 103 markets. While still only a quarter of Verizon’s 4G LTE network, which currently is in over 440 markets, AT&T is ahead of schedule which is a promising sign for AT&T customers who are red with envy over Verizon’s huge 4G LTE network (which is also the largest in the world). Don’t tell AT&T that, however, since according to AT&T’s press release: “AT&T 4G LTE is part of the nation’s largest 4G network, which covers more than 285 million people and 3,000 more 4G cities and towns than Verizon.**”
Of course, when AT&T makes these claims, they are including their HSPA+ network, which is technically just an enhanced 3G network – not the same as a 4G LTE network – with the term 4G being used as nothing more than a marketing ploy. Despite marketing ploys and corporate advertising jabs, this is definitely encouraging news for AT&T customers, especially considering that Sprint is catching up quickly with their 4G LTE build out.
