Verizon iPhone 5 users have reported that a bug in their new iPhones has their cellular data service being activated even when on a Wi-Fi network. Indeed if you pay close attention, after a phone call Verizon iPhone 5′s will briefly switch to LTE (or 3G) even when within known Wi-Fi network like the one in your home. While I’m not one to sit and count my kilobytes, other users have reported what could be a significant impact on their data usage.

Apple today released a carrier settings update (see support article here) for all Verizon iPhone 5′s, version 13.1, that squashes this potentially costly bug. To update your iPhone’s carrier settings, simply plug your iPhone into iTunes, or follow the instructions shown below from Apple.
